Getting Rid of Boredom? It’s Easy if You Do It Smart

Oh, the age-old question that mimics Schrödinger’s cat. When you run out of interesting things to do, eventually you get bored. When you are bored, it’s quite hard to come up with activities to make yourself engaged.

Why do we get bored?

Our trusty Lexico lists Boredom as, “Feeling weary and impatient because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one’s current activity.”

Which roughly gives you an idea about what is bored. When we are stuck doing the same things over and over again, we get bored by it. Once you get bored, you lose interest in not only the activity you were doing repetitively, but also any other activity that is remotely connected to it.

What’s bad about it is that once we get stuck in that cage, we get comfortable in it. You see yourself doing something as a chore and actively ignore it emotionally and physically.

I’m bored, what now?

It depends on how far you are into the comfort zone you created. If you have been there only for a little time, then it’s easier to break out and get engaged in something. But, if you are far into the rabbit hole of comfort…
